A Haworth pub could have its licence to operate into the early hours revoked or suspended.

Councillors are to consider an application to review the premises licence of The Old Sun Inn, in West Lane.

The pub has attracted complaints about noise, litter nuisance and other anti-social behaviour.

The future of its licence will be determined at a meeting of the Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel, in Bradford’s City Hall, on Monday.

Earlier this week the pub’s management declined to comment on the panel meeting.

The review application was submitted by district councillor Doreen Lee, acting on behalf of people living near the pub.

She said the pub’s activities were keeping them awake early in the morning.

She said there were also problems with litter and general rowdy behaviour.

In her application statement she said: “Residents are fed up with rubbish and with people being sick on their doorsteps, as well as with the very loud shouting and swearing.

“This over-spills from the pub to the smoking area, which is on the side of a senior housing complex. Then it’s taxis and cars until after 3am every weekend. “The residents are dreading another summer. The local vicar has had to move his children into the front of the vicarage because of the noise.”

She said she and the residents would like the Council to amend the pub’s licence so that the premises had to close at 11pm, or 11.30pm at the latest, instead of 2am.

The application review is accompanied by five letters and a petition signed by residents.

One letter-writer states that the pub’s owners have done what they can to resolve the problems, but adds: “The one thing that is out of the owners’ control is the behaviour of the customers before and after a trip to the Old Sun.

“This is not changing. It is simply too loud and too late.”
