Pupils turn back clock 150 years
Sutton C of E school pupils Caitlin Hall, Joe Keogh, George Johnson and Callum Leng dress up in Victorian costume

Pupils stepped back in time as Sutton C of E School celebrated its 150th anniversary.

Teachers and pupils alike donned Victorian dress for the birthday fun.

Head teacher Louise Armitage said: "It's been fantastic.

"This morning the children have put on plays and we're going across to the park this afternoon for a duck race."

Past pupils and teachers donated memorabilia, which was displayed around the school.

One family was able to provide photographs of six generations of pupils.

Mrs Armitage said: "The children have all rehearsed extremely hard for this.

"What's been brilliant has been the number of people from the community bringing in interesting things.

"It seems to me that the children have really enjoyed it.

"They've been taught in a Victorian style this morning, which has been very different for them."

The school's Friends' Association organised Victorian-style games such as whips, spinning tops and marbles, as well as providing every pupil with a souvenir teddy bear commemorating the day.
