Ideas needed on spending windfall

Children's play equipment, new benches and Christmas tree lights for Cross Roads were just some of the suggested uses for a £10,000 cash windfall for Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council.

The money - known formally as the Ward Investment Fund - has come from the sale of Leeds Bradford Airport.

Cllr Rosie Broomhead said many areas in Haworth which are popular with tourists have no benches where visitors can sit.

Cllr Ian Shackleton put forward the case for spending at least some of the cash on play equipment, while Cllr Hill suggested using part of the sum on a power supply for lights on Cross Roads' Christmas tree. He reiterated the importance of spending the money on capital projects spread across the parish, so no particular area felt left out.

He asked those councillors with ideas on how to make use of the windfall to draw up detailed proposals.
