two pupils from Haworth Primary School have won both the major prizes on offer in a maths competition for children educated in Bradford district.
Year six youngsters Daniel Wilson and Alfie Finan entered the Coral Windows maths competition, staged at Coral College, Bradford, last month.
A total of 80 children from at least 30 primary schools took part in the contest, designed to assess the mathematical skills of 10 to 11-year-olds.
Daniel came first, with a score of 84 per cent. His prize was a desktop computer with a 19-inch flat screen monitor.
His friend, Alfie, came second with 83 per cent and was given a £150 reward.
Haworth head teacher Janet Parkinson said: "The boys enjoy a challenge and regularly spend maths lessons and homework sessions working on complex mathematical investigations together.
"Their teachers say the boys are a delight to teach. They have a real thirst for maths, both have a natural talent with numbers and are very motivated.
"They both thoroughly deserve this recognition of their ability, which is exceptional."
Speaking after the competition, Daniel said: "I feel proud, absolutely delighted, and I can't wait to try out my new computer."
Alfie, who is head boy at Haworth, said: "I feel I have made the school proud of me and I'm ecstatic."
