Colne go nap as Silsden suffer
10:28pm Wednesday 24th October 2012 in Sport
Manager Chris Reape missed the game
Colne 5 Silsden 0
Having won their last two home North West Counties League Premier Division games, the Cobbydalers travelled with high expectations but, after a bright start, were put to the sword by their neighbours who scored five without reply for the second successive game.
With Chris Reape away on business, Danny Bolton was in charge and the team was unchanged.
The Cobbydalers received an early warning when Michael Morrison hit the post with only Edward Hall to beat.
But just a minute later Colne took the lead when Jason Hart slid into an empty net after Hall had rushed off his line.
Colne’s movement was exceptional and Dominic Craig should have extended the lead but missed a sitter.
At the other end, Andy Lee had a shot cleared off the line but it was 2-0 on 19 minutes. Colne were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Silsden box and, with none of the Cobbydalers watching the ball, Hart coolly slid it into the corner of the net.
Silsden almost hit back when Garrod volleyed Lee’s cross from four yards out but their former keeper, Chris Thompson, pushed the ball on to the bar when a goal looked certain.
Instead it was 3-0 by half-time when Ashley Carter cut in down the right and blasted into the roof of the net.
Silsden had the slope in the second half but Colne increased their lead after 56 minutes when Hart notched his third for his second hat-trick in the space of four days.
Silsden knew it wasn’t their day when Kevin Ryan beat Thompson but Scott Moore, running back into his own goal area, blasted the ball on to his own bar.
Lee went close before Thompson made another point-blank save from Danny Husband’s powerful header.
O’Neill hit a screamer from 30 yards out to make it 5-0 and put the icing on the cake for the hosts.
On Saturday Silsden travel to Cheadle Town in the League Cup and then entertain Knaresborough on Wednesday, October 31 in the County Cup.
SILSDEN: Hall, Moses, McEneaney, Sanasy, Nettleton, Husband, Bryan (Jalil 85), D McNulty (Nanje-Ngoe 57) Garrod, Ryan, Lee.
