Garry Thompson’s 48th birthday celebrations fell flat as he lost 4-3 to Dutch seventh seed Jan Dekker in the second round of the BDO World Championships at Frimley Green tonight.
Trailing 2-1 in a thrilling deciding set, Silsden thrower Thompson took out 82 with a bull, double 16 finish to take the game to a tie-break.
Dekker took the first tie-break leg with his favourite double 16 to lead 3-2 and then clinched his place in the quarter-finals with a bull finish.
Bradford-born Scott Waites cruised through to the last eight with a 4-1 thumping of Belgium’s Geert de Vos.
The third seed will play England’s Paul Jennings in the last eight after he whitewashed Ireland’s Jason Cullen 4-0.
