Brighouse Town face another early start tomorrow as they make a second attempt to reach the Isle of Wight to take on Newport in the fourth round of the FA Vase.

Town were loading their kit and belongings onto the team bus at 8.30am a week ago when they got the call that the game had been postponed. They face another nervous morning as complications due to the weather are threatening the last 32 tie once again.

Town chairman Ray McLaughlin said: “We managed to avoid most of the costs from last week because everyone in the country was affected by the chaos. But my big worry this time is that a thaw will lead to another postponement for a waterlogged pitch.

“If that’s the case we won’t get the same sympathy from the coach company, the hotel at Southampton we have booked into for two nights and the return ferry crossings.

“If the game does go ahead we feel bad about gate-crashing Newport’s 125th anniversary party. They are holding it on Saturday but after what they thought was a league game. It is our 50th this season so it will be an occasion for both clubs. Hopefully they will welcome that and it being a big FA Vase tie could mean there are a lot more people there for them.”

Town’s Baris Northern Counties East Premier Division neighbours’ derby will also be at the mercy of the weather as Bradford continues to struggle with the conditions. Thackley are due to host Liversedge and again a rapid thaw could lead to a waterlogged pitch.

Thackley are riding higher in the table as they currently occupy seventh but form goes out of the window on derby day so Sedge, who are a lowly 14th, will be aiming to claim the bragging rights over their rivals.

In Division One second-placed Albion Sports will be hoping the pitch at Horsfall Stadium is playable as they look to defend their position. Kulwinder Sandhu’s men are five points off the summit but have three games in hand. Their visitors, if the fixture escapes the weather, are third from bottom Yorkshire Amateur.

Eccleshill should be heading to mid-table Grimsby Borough. It has been a disjointed start for the Eagles’ head coach Bobby Davison as he was appointed in late November but has overseen just three games so far because of a glut of postponements.

Farsley will be looking to maintain a 100 per cent home record on Saturday – they have not had a first team league game postponed at Throstle Nest this season.

Neil Parsley’s men have not been as consistent on the pitch, however, and are sixth in the Evo-Stik Division One North, just outside the play-off zone.

They have plenty of work still to do if they are to book themselves a second consecutive end of season tilt at promotion.

A win over lower mid-table Bamber Bridge could be crucial as their visitors are not pulling up any trees and are nearer in points total to the clubs below them than Ossett Town, who are immediately above them.

Farsley’s problem is that they are running out of games but victory on Saturday could take them back into the frame, though Farsley have played the most games of all the clubs in the top nine. New Mills have played eight fewer at this stage.

Silsden have faced two of the North West Counties League Premier Division’s high flyers in their two games so far this year so they will be hoping their journey across the Pennines to take on Ashton Athletic gets the go-ahead.

The Cobbydalers beat leaders Maine Road at home but lost at third placed Runcorn Town the following week in their first two games of 2013. Saturday’s hosts, weather permitting, are 20th in the table, four places behind Silsden who have a nine-point cushion.

The Cobbydalers have a couple of games in hand so their genuine hopes of climbing back into the top half remain.
