Denholme’s Rebekah Tiler warmed-up for her international debut this Saturday in Sweden by breaking five British records in the Northern Schools’ Championship at Ashington in Northumberland.

The Year Nine Bingley Grammar School Student snatched 75kg and clean and jerked 96kg for a total of 171kg.

This weekend’s trip is the first of several overseas competitions which Rebekah is set to compete in, having made rapid progress in the sport.

She will represent England at junior level in the Tri-Nations Tournament in Landskana, which also features the host country Sweden and Norway.

Her mum Emma said: “Rebekah is excited about going abroad to represent her country. She feels it is a great honour.”

Rebekah (pictured), who only turned 14 this month, is being lined up for the European Youth Championships in Lithuania in September and the Commonwealth Championships in Malaysia in November.

If things go well, despite her young age, she could be considered for the Common-wealth Games in Glasgow next year.

Meanwhile, her younger sisters Sophie and Lisa, who also train at Mytholmroyd Weightlifting Club, also took gold in the Northern Schools’ Championship.

Sophie, a Year Five student, snatched 17kg and clean and jerked 25kg for a combined 42kg, and Lisa, who is a Year Three pupil, snatched 16kg and clean and jerked 24kg for a total of 40kg.
