Keighley 13 Wheatley Hills 17
An impressive first half performance by Keighley was, in the end, insufficient to enable them to defeat second-placed Wheatley Hills.
The home side dominated the first 40 minutes, establishing a 13-point lead with a penalty by Alex Brown and tries by second row Bob Clarke and full back Harry Titley.
The visitors rallied in the second half, their solid pack denying Keighley possession for long periods. Sustained pressure on the home line eventually brought a close-range try for prop O’ Donovan, converted by full back Woodcock.
With Keighley hooker Will Armitage in the sin bin, the valiant defence was then breached again, prop Tau crashing over for a try which Woodcock converted to give his side a one-point lead midway through the half.
A tiring home side was unable to gain an attacking base and finally conceded a penalty goal by Woodcock with the last kick of the game.
