Silsden 1, Glossop North End 5

Silsden suffered another humbling home experience but the only difference between the sides was Mark Battersby, who was in scintillating form for Glossop.

The visitors took an early lead following an own goal but Battersby claimed the other four as his side hauled themselves into the top half of the North West Counties League Premier Division table.

Glossop forced a tenth-minute corner and when commanding centre back and skipper Kelvin Lugsden flicked the flag-kick on, the ball went in off Danny Husband.

Just four minutes later Battersby rounded Silsden keeper Edward Hall, who had come to the side of his area to clear, and netted from an acute angle.

The Glossop forward netted his second after springing the offside trap just before the half-hour mark.

Battersby raced through a static Silsden defence early in the second half to claim his hat-trick, before his fourth – a stab-in from close range – made it a nap hand.

Chris Wademan pegged one back with a late consolation for the Cobbydalers.

Silsden spokesman Jim Rosser said: “It was not a good performance from us but Battersby is red hot at the moment and he will go higher.

“A lot of clubs are looking at him and Bury have been mentioned as being one of them.

“We had a few chances, notably when we could have made it 1-1 and then at the start of the second half, but it wasn’t to be.”
