Keighley Cougars u-23s 32 BARLA Great Britain Lions 34

Young Cougars had victory snatched from their grasp as BARLA scored two tries in the last two minutes to triumph.

Keighley more than held their own for much of this friendly against the amateur representative side, who are due to tour Australia later in the year.

Tries from Adam Reardon (2), Lewis Reed, Aaron Nicholson and Luke Whiteley put Cougars 26-12 up at half-time, and a further score from Llewelyn Chapman – with Jordan Aitchison kicking three goals – saw the hosts lead 32-22.

But two late converted tries saw BARLA, who narrowly went down to a near full-strength Barrow Raiders last month, claim victory.

Cougars head of youth development Jeremy Crowther said: “It was a cracking game but we just ran out of steam at the end. It felt like men against boys at times but we played so well for 60 minutes.”
