Bridge of highs for Oxenhope
Oxenhope Rec 5 Boroughbridge 0
This game was not at easy as the scoreline suggests, with just one goal separating the two teams until the 70th minute.
But as soon the second goal went in the floodgates opened.
After two weeks of inactivity Oxenhope started sluggishly but took the lead on ten minutes when Gaz Ritson played in Dan Moriarty, who went past two defenders before slotting home inside the near post.
Soon after Ollie Metcalfe put a perfectly-weighted pass through to Ritson, who found himself one-on-one with the keeper but, just as he was about to pull the trigger, the ball bobbled and his attempt was turned round the post.
The home side had most of the possession but Boroughbridge were always dangerous on the break and keeper Nick Hudson made several outstanding saves.
Early in the second half Oxen-hope had four good chances in five minutes but the Boroughbridge goal was leading a charmed life.
Midway through the half the visitors broke and Hudson pulled off a contender for save of the season with a superb diving one-handed save.
On 70 minutes Oxenhope grabbed the two-goal advantage. Tom Marshall sped down the right flank and fed Moriarty, who played the ball to Metcalfe. With his back to goal, he controlled and turned in one movement to fire in.
Minutes later a Moriarty corner found Jason Walton at the back post to rifle home before another perfectly-flighted Moriarty flag-kick was met with a thumping header by striker Michael Garnett.
Soon after Joel Gallagher and Moriarty linked up well to set up Metcalfe to stroke home.
This impressive win against a side only one position behind them moved the Worth Valley outfit into fifth place with games in hand over the teams above them.
This Saturday they entertain Kippax at Marley (2.30pm) and then visit Silsden reserves in the Keighley Cup quarter-final under floodlights the following Wednesday (7.45pm).
Oxenhope: Hudson, Day, Bailey, Nelson, Walton, White, Clewes (Marshall), Moriarty, Garnett (Andrew), Ritson (Gallagher), Metcalfe.
