Cowling Harlequins 48 Farnley A Falcons 12
Quins gained their first win of the season to move off the bottom of Division Seven despite having a player red-carded early in the match.
By 3pm, it looked as if the game was not going to be on due to Falcons’ late arrival but it finally got the go-ahead as Cowling broke their duck with a great performance.
Having welcomed back Shamir Razak and Tanvir Padok, the hosts were buzzing with confidence and soon took the lead.
After five minutes Chris Spencer dummied his way over the line. Craig Nicholson missed the conversion and two minutes later, he was red-carded for a high tackle.
Player-coach Daz Green- wood questioned the referee and was yellow-carded himself.
Yet despite being reduced to 11 men, they shocked Farnley with tries from hooker Ross Pearson and in-form Spencer, Rob Owlett adding the conversions.
Quins went in 16-6 up at the break and added to their lead in the second half when Adam Atenbury made an 80-metre sprint up field to score.
Owlett kicked the two and, on the very next set, went through a gap to put ever-present Brian Vincent in for his first Quins try.
Owlett kicked the extras and went on to put Spencer in for his well-deserved hat-trick.
Falcons hit back with a soft try but Brannan Lawn – son of Bradford City join-chairman Mark – stormed up field and scored his first try for the club in the corner and converted the two with a great strike.
Cowling are hoping to build on this success against Queensbury B on Saturday at South Craven School (2.30pm).
