Keighley’s Leah Moorby won two gold medals at the London Open Championship last weekend for her club Ultimate Taekwondo.

She triumphed in her normal category (12 to 14-year-old cadets) and was also successful in the junior category (14 to 17-year-olds).

The 13-year-old was in exceptional form as she demolished her opponents in her four fights and only conceded seven points all day.

Leah beat two fellow Great Britain squad mates in her cadet matches, including an opponent from Gurumu Taekwondo (London), whom she beat 14-2 in the final.

She repeated her success after being entered in the junior category for the first time in a Championship competition.

The Holy Family student demolished her first opponent from TKD Tigers with a flurry of head shots to cruise to a 16-2 win.

She was an even more emphatic winner in the final against her Best Leg Academy (London) opponent. Leah continued the barrage of head shots and the referee stopped the contest towards the end of the first round, with the Yorkshire girl 15-0 ahead.

Ultimate Taekwondo head coach Kath Hook said: “Leah put in a great performance in London.

“She showed terrific confidence and control. It is fantastic to see Leah putting into practice the things we are working on in training, which tells me she is listening.

“Performances like this will keep her on the right track for GB selection for the European Championships later this year.”
