Keighley’s spell at the top of the early Division Two table lasted just 24 hours as they suffered their first defeat of the season at New Farnley last Sunday.

Another maximum-points batting display the day before saw them to a comfortable win over Windhill but the Bradford League newcomers edged a close game by two wickets.

Nadeem Hussain (5-31) and Dave McCallum (3-62) helped New Farnley dismiss Keighley for 187.

Freddie Pearson (62), Richard Robinson (34) and Matthew Bottomley (33) were the main scorers for the visitors.

New Farnley were given a great start as openers Matthew Good (52) and David Cummings (38) shared a stand of 95. Good struck a six and eight fours.

Once they were parted wickets started to tumble as Tom Stead (4-45) and Ross Towler (4-55) attempted to swing the game Keighley’s way but Ian Fisher (42) and Peter Ross (30) ensured that New Farnley reached their target.

Against Windhill, the league all-time leading run-scorer Robinson (pictured) boosted his career tally with a fine knock of 102, which helped his side to a total of 237-8.

Imran Patel weighed in with 56 and opener Bottomley contributed 30.

Overseas player Fahar Hussain (3-50) and Ryan Holdsworth 93-37) were the best of the Windhill bowlers.

The Windhill reply was led by newcomer Abid Awan. The former Guiseley player made 74 and was supported by Jack Holland (42) in a total of 202-8.

Champions Farsley proved too good for Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield holders Keighley II as they recorded a 98-run win.
