Mewies Solicitors Craven League First Division leaders Oakworth, must be wondering what they have to do to win the Wynn Cup.

They have been in the final in four of the last five years and lost them all!

This year they tackled Haworth Road at Haworth, and the Baildon Bottom side, in their first final, opted to bat, Mohammed Zahid and Chris Griggs dispelling any pre-match nerves.

With the score on 57, the latter was caught behind for 21 but Zahid took his total to 47 before Adam Smith bowled him to make it 89-2.

The tempo then slowed against some tight bowling but Waj Mahmood (33) and Danny Pearson (27) took the score to 145-5 and the tail wagged to get the total to 179.

Steve Filkin, who had received a bit of tap early on, roaring back to wrap up the tail and finish with 6-59.

Oakworth’s innings was torn apart in the first three overs. Jack Hainsworth going first ball, Robert Hopkinson being bowled for four by Inayat Ullah and Gareth Marshall being lbw for a duck.

Jack Davison was dismissed at 17 and Lewis Wrathall at 29 before Joel Gallagher progressed the score to 70 when Haworth Road claimed the big scalp of skipper Michael Scarborough for 40.

Rain then threatened to force a bowl-out but after 45-minute hold-up, play resumed and Danish Tariq captured the four remaining wickets as the score reached 134. Tariq claimed 5-47 and Ullah 3-19.

Andrew Gudgeon received the trophy from league secretary Ann Coe, while umpires Jeff Gott and John Oughton named Filkin as man of the match for his 6-59 and 17.

Fixture secretary Trevor Coe thanked sponsors Dacre, Son & Hartley and hosts Haworth Cricket Club for their ground and refreshments.
