Albion Sports won their first-ever FA Cup tie as they beat North Shields 2-0 in the extra preliminary round clash at Throstle Nest.

Making their bow in the competition at their adopted Farsley home, Kulwinder Sandhu’s men took the lead when Danny Walker’s header from Charlie Flaherty’s 33rd-minute cross went in off North Shields’ Kevin Hughes.

They made sure of the win when substitute Alex Cusack added a second eight minutes from time.

Brighouse Town joined them in the next round after they marched to a 3-1 home win over Seaham Red Star, despite failing from the penalty spot in the second half.

Luke Gibson put Town in front in the third minute but they were pegged back nine minutes into the second half. The penalty miss, by Tom Matthews on the hour, could have been crucial.

However, Matthews redeemed himself by restoring Town’s lead eight minutes later and Ryan Hall netted from the spot in injury-time to wrap things up.

Thackley lost 3-1 at home to Guiseborough Town, despite taking an early lead through Carl Horsman. Town levelled through Michael Roberts and scored two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half courtesy of Roberts and Callum Martin.

Silsden lost 2-1 to visitors Bridlington Town, going behind after Cobbydalers keeper Ed Hall misjudge a ball and Scott Phillips stroked in. Joel Sutton made it 2-0 before half-time and Nicky McNally’s late response was only a consolation.

Liversedge were thrashed 6-0 at Morpeth Town after the home side fired in five inside the last 15 minutes.

* FC Halifax Town continued their winning streak in the Skrill Premier League, beating Dartford 2-0 at The Shay thanks to second-half goals from Lee Gregory and Kevin Holsgrove.
