Whitcombes have Challenge Cup final in the blood
James and Natasha Whitcombe will be carrying flags when Hull and Wigan enter the big stage in the Challenge Cup final.
The name Whitcombe was the talk of Wembley in 1948 when the pair’s great grandfather Frank became the first forward to win the Lance Todd Trophy.
He was also the first player to win the man of the match award on the losing side as Bradford Northern went down 8-3 to Wigan.
James, 12, who plays league for Keighley Albion and union for Keighley, will be carrying the Cougars flag, while 16-year-old sister Natasha will hold the Huddersfield Giants one.
James is also a ball boy for the Cougars. Their dad Martin said: “They are both really excited, especially James. It’s every boy’s dream to appear at Wembley.”
