Keighley boxer Muhammad Ali will bid to add another national title to his name next month.

The 17-year-old has reached the final of the National Ambition Boxing Championships (NABC) after winning his semi-final on a unanimous points verdict.

Ali, who competes for Bury Amateur Boxing Club, beat Liam Davis of Donnington ABC at Sherburn Leisure Centre in Durham in the class B 52kg category.

His trainer Mike Jelley said: “Ali is a bit of a slow starter and the first round was close but he stepped it up in the second and third. His opponent was given a public warning and Ali was always in control.”

He is now due to compete in the final of the competition – formerly known as the Children and Young Person’s Championship – in Birmingham on Friday, December 6 before heading for an England training camp in Sheffield that weekend.

Ali is hoping to gain selection for next year’s European Championships and another title would not do his chances any harm. Jelley said: “If he wins this final he will have won eight national titles.

“He’s won everything there is so, fingers crossed, they will pick him for the Europeans but there are a couple of other names in the hat.”

Ali won the NABC crown at 50kg last year.

Meanwhile, Ali’s cousins Mohammed Nadim and Ibrahim Nadim, also from Keighley, have also been in winning form.

They both gained victories in a dinner show held by Dynamics ABC in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester.

Ibrahim, aged 14, won his 37kg clash against J Scott (Bredbury), while younger brother Mohammed beat C Burton (Middleton Select).

Both were on unanimous decisions.
