Former World triathlon champion Jonny Brownlee extended his family’s run of success in the Chevin Chase on Thursday.

He scored his fourth successive win in the Boxing Day event which has been dominated by him and his Olympic champion brother Alistair since 2007.

It means that both Brownlee boys have won the race four times, Alistair winning in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009 before Jonny started his run of success.

This year’s race, which attracted 964 hardy runners, was run over a slightly amended course so Jonny Brownlee’s time, measured by chip timing for the first time in the race’s history, is a new record of 39min 01sec.

The sunny conditions were a pleasant surprise to the runners after the recent rain and gales.

Second and just half a minute behind was Daniel Hallam of Owls AC, with Phil Tedd of Thames Hare and Hounds third.

The first lady home was again Pauline Munro of Wetherby in 45.34. She finished well ahead of Skyrac’s Hannah Brown who clocked 48.15. Rachel Pilling was third in 48.35.

Airecentre Pacers, who organise the annual event, were represented by father-to-be Will Morris who was 26th in 44.46.

Race director Amanda Connolly – Hall reported the event to be another overwhelming success and expressed her thanks to all the marshals, the organising committee and of course the competitors, who make up this increasingly popular race, many of them in fancy dress.
