West Didsbury & Chorlton 2 Silsden 0

A young Cobbydalers team were left to rue two defensive lapses on Tuesday night as they failed to build on last Saturday’s win.

After beating seventh-placed AFC Liverpool 3-1, Silsden travelled with confidence to their mid-table hosts but a flat first-half showing proved their undoing.

West Didsbury & Chorlton went in front inside the first 60 seconds when Silsden’s failure to close down saw Matty Kay open the scoring from 20 yards.

The visitors’ sluggish start set the tone for the rest of the period, which saw Tre Baldwin-Willis add to the lead on the stroke of half-time after a bobble had caught out a defender.

Silsden improved after the break but were unable to get back in the game.

Disappointed boss Andy Geary said: “We were lackadaisical in the first half. There was no passion and we had nothing in the tank.

“We moved the ball a lot better after the break but both teams never looked like scoring.

“Two defensive lapses have cost us in the end.

“After playing so well in the first half on Saturday, we were expecting to come here and do something.”

Danny Gleave, Matty Moses and Ben Crabtree performed well for Silsden.
