Wibsey Warriors 44, Keighley 26

Keighley travelled to Wibsey last Saturday hoping to continue their good form of the previous week in the Pennine League Premier Division.

The game started at a good pace, with both teams moving the ball around despite a strong wind blowing across the field.

Wibsey opened the scoring when their centre broke to gift the winger an unconverted try in the corner.

However, just three minutes later, Keighley hit back.

Alfie Seeley, sensing an opportunity, rushed out of defence to intercept a long Wibsey pass and outstrip the covering defence for a 75-yard try which he converted.

Wibsey were next to score, with a carbon-copy of their first try, but then Keighley dominated, Seeley creating a gap for Chris Dooling to power over, taking four opponents with him.

Seeley again added the goal but, on the stroke of half-time, Wibsey scored a converted try to take the lead.

The second half started well for Keighley, Seeley kicking a penalty after two minutes to level the scores.

However, from there on in things went downhill for the visitors, with Wibsey scoring 18 unanswered points to take the game away from Keighley.

They were rewarded, though, when Danny Snowden scored a typical prop’s try, bursting through and taking five would-be tacklers with him under the posts.

Seeley maintained his 100 per cent record with the kick but the hosts then scored two more converted tries to seal the game.

Keighey, who host high-flying Thornhill on Saturday, got a consolation try by Rick Hollins from a yard out, Seeley again adding the extras.
