Revenge is sweet for Oakworth
The tie of the day in the first round of the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Wynn Cup looked to be at Oakworth, where Barrowford were the visitors.
Only eight days after the chastening experience of being slapped about by Junaid Khan, Oakworth ensured that there would be no repeat.
The Bull Holme side were asked to bat and scored 132 off 40.2 overs. Khan top-scored again but this time making only 33 as Steve Filkin took 3-27.
The reply was stunning as Jack Hainsworth (86no) and Robert Hopkinson (46no) took the Cure Hill side into round two by ten wickets in 28.2 overs.
The day’s highest score came at Hepworth & Idle, where visitors Bingley Congs walloped a massive 319-3, with Neil Copping making 90 not out, Matt Roberts 80 and Tom Keighley 78 not out. The Westfield Laners replied with 169-8, with Copping taking 4-33.
Mick Hawkes was top-scorer with 46 as Damian Rowell and Dan Trowers both claimed 3-10. Hawkes then took two wickets before Jamie Rowell (54no) and Nick Trowers (33no) took the Bronte side to an eight-wicket victory.
Ingrow St John’s made the long trip to Chatburn and came away victorious by six wickets.
The Ribble Valley side slipped to 25-6 before Andy Booth (46) and Matt Eglin (16no) brought a bit of respectability as they closed on 104, with Nadeem Safdar (4-17) and Nadeem Zaman (3-21) doing the damage. Wasim Hussain (34) top-scored as the Saints progressed.
Pendle Forest were restricted to 112 by visitors Embsay as Scott Robinson took 5-24 and Philip Binner 3-35. Then Duncan Ward (62) and Josh Robinson (40) opened with 107, where both fell. But the damage was done and soon after the Shires Lane side had won by eight wickets.
Chris Williams scored 61 for the hosts as they closed on 184-4. The Sandylands side replied with 99, with T Carlisle top-scoring with 30.
Thornton made 154 at Airedale, with Kev Pollard topscoring with 55 as S Khan, Wayne Coppack and Martin Casey took three wickets apiece. The Bradford Road side were hustled out for 61, with Luke Scothern taking 4-18.
The draw for the second round on Sunday, May 25 is: Haworth Road v Haworth, Cowling v Embsay, Gargrave v Thornton, Wilsden v Bingley Congs, Denholme v Crossflatts, Ingrow St John’s v Bradley, Foulridge v Sutton, Long Lee v Oakworth
