Cononley Sports 1 Hellifield Sports 0 (after extra time)

Mark Bradley scored two minutes from the end of extra-time to secure victory for Cononley Sports in the final of the Craven FA Morrison Cup.

He struck just when it looked as if this tight-fought match was heading for a penalty shoot out.

Defences were on top throughout the match which was played in a competitive spirit and was a credit to both clubs.

The woodwork was rattled by both teams but neither could force the breakthrough until Bradley’s late strike.

The hard ground and windy conditions presented the players with tricky conditions, but they made light of the difficulties.

Cononley had the better of the play in the first half of last Friday’s final but could not take advantage.

The second half saw Hellifield piling the pressure on the Cononley defence.

They stood firm with some last-ditch clearances and when breached Elliott Hollings brought off some good saves.

Kris Attewell, Hellifield’s stand in goalkeeper, also distinguished himself with several good saves.

The large following from Hellifield roared for a penalty on two occasions, but the game ended goalless after 90 minutes.

Extra time saw Cononley take command as Hellifield, who had put a great effort in, began to tire.

Cononley sensed their chance to win the game and were rewarded with Bradley’s goal.

There were several outstanding performances for both sides, but the man of the match award went to Hellifield’s Carl Stanford.

Holders Rimington will be looking to win the Craven Cup for the seventh time in nine years when they take on Ingleton at Skipton Town tomorrow (6.30pm).

Ingleton last lifted the trophy in 2006 and are hoping they can end Rimington’s dominance of the competition.

Ray Torczuk of Skipton will referee the final with Stuart Hoyle and Willie Naylor on the line.
