Oakworth’s Zara Knappy, a Year 13 A level student at Oakbank School represented England on Sunday in the annual Home International Challenge Cup at the Karrimor Great Trail event held in Keswick, Cumbria.
Zara earned her call up as a result of being the first junior in the recent CAU Fell Championship race held in Blackburn.
This was the third time that she has represented her country, having debuted in the same event last year, and then went on to compete at the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Home International Championships in September.
This year Zara, part of the three-strong team (with Ilkley's Georgia Malir - who finished first - and Stockport's Lizzy Apsley), improved by finishing fourth overall and clocked a time of 23:52, shaving 0:56 seconds off last year’s time and finished second counter in the team scoring event.
The Home Countries International competition accumulates the scores from the results of junior men and women’s races, along with senior men and women’s races to determine an overall winner, which team England went on to win again.
Zara is a member of Keighley & Craven Athletics club, based at UAK Keighley.
