KEIGHLEY only have four trips outside of West Yorkshire next season.

The Rose Cottage club are in SSE Yorkshire Division Two in 2014-15, and Goole, which opens the campaign on September 6, Barnsley (November 29), Ripon (February 7) and Sheffield Medicals (February 28) are the only journeys to South or East Yorkshire.

This compares with nine away from West Yorkshire last season when Keighley were relegated from Yorkshire One.

The ‘long’ excursions in 2013-14 were to Acklam, Bridlington, Scarborough, Doncaster Phoenix, Wath-Upon-Dearne, Dinnington, York and North Ribblesdale.

Derbies for Keighley next term will include Bradford Salem, Old Rishworthians, West Leeds and West Park Leeds.

The most eagerly-awaited clashes are the two against Salem, whose new director of rugby is former Keighley Cougars star Sam Gardner, and the matches will also bring Ian Woodwiss back into competition with the club he left to rejoin Keighley.

Salem are Keighley’s visitors on December 6, with the return fixture being the penultimate league match on April 11.Other derby clashes include West Leeds (away November 15, home March 7), Dave Duxbury’s West Park Leeds (home November 22, away March 21) and Halifax-based Old Rishworthians (away October 11, home January 31).

Graeme Sheffield’s side start with two away matches, with a visit to Knottingley on September 13 following the game at Goole.

With the trip to Leodiensians on September 27, Keighley will therefore play three of their first four matches away from home.

Acklam, who finished bottom of Yorkshire One last season, do not feature in Keighley’s division next season, having opted to switch to Northumberland & Durham Division One on a level transfer.

However, they were then put in a relegation place and will therefore compete in Northumberland & Durham Division Two next season, the switch sparing Ripon, who finished second from bottom in Yorkshire Division Two, from relegation. Goole and Leeds Medics & Dentists both come up from Division Three.
