BRADFORD District Motor Club’s popular WBS Summer Series trials at Manor Farm, Thorlby attracted a good entry of beginners, novices and youths, with local riders earning success.

Series sponsor Glusburn builder Nathan Wrigglesworth planned and marked the section course with three different routes to cater for the young riders.

All 53 competitors rode a four-lap course covering almost a mile to just below Skyrakes Ridge.

Skipton adult Simon Villarubia was the victor on the easy course, losing a single penalty on the tricky opening section, where the gradient and exposed tree roots unseated quite a few riders.

The youngest competitors had to negotiate a grass bank and that caught some competitors short on speed.

Wigglesworth was on hand with huge fencing stake to guide the young competitors on the right lines.

The boys and girls who impressed were Jacob Reeday, Mason Carter and Silsden’s Josh McParland.

That trio, along with Keighley’s Myles Hutchinson, contested the easy and mid-courses.

Cononley’s Beth Dunning ran off with the mid-course class, failing only the first section on lap two. The Sherco rider beat Ben Graham by 13 penalties.

Bradford’s Tony Cartman lost a single penalty to win the hard course class from Skipton’s James Moorhouse, who shrugs off modern machines and competes on a 340cc Bultaco that is probably 30 years old.

James took second place by way of a tie-breaker from Keighley youth Joe Fox.

Another Keighley boy snatched Class B. Aaron Carter and his brother Mason are consistent award winners in Yorkshire.

On the easy route, Danielle Wrigglesworth took sixth place ahead of Kim Stockdale, while Lucy Ayrton just contained Ellie Woodhead by a single penalty. The Barnoldswick versus Silsden battle rages on every weekend.

Lucy, at nine, is a just a year older in age and experience than Ellie, who has her experienced trials riding father Tim in her corner.
