RIPON hosts the opening meeting of the 2014 Go Racing In Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival this Saturday with a seven-race programme from 2pm.

The festival concludes at Pontefract a week on Sunday, though don't forget the track's 22nd annual 'Red Shirt Night' charity meeting tomorrow evening from 6.30pm.

At Ripon, Go Racing in Yorkshire hosts an interactive roadshow showcasing both the equine and human stars of the sport, while a racecard competition running throughout the festival offers the chance to win a VIP day out at the final day of the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival at York next month, including a £200 bet with Sky Bet.

Ripon's opening race at 2pm is sponsored by Keighley-based Dobson Gaskets, with the highlight a £25,000 handicap for three-year-olds over 1m 4f at 3.35pm, in which William Haggas holds a brace of entries, both well beaten in their respective races at Royal Ascot last month.

This looks easier, so note William's final preference, though Ralph Beckett's Melrose Abbey, an easy winner over the trip on soft going at Newmarket last time out, could be the one they all have to beat if conditions are similar.

Channel 4 has live flat racing from Newmarket, Newbury and Haydock, along with the big summer jumps meeting at Market Rasen.

SATURDAY'S SELECTIONS: 1.50 Newmarket – Prince of Johanne (each way), 2.40 Newbury – Al Kazeem, 3.15 Newbury – Es Que Love (each way), 3.35 Ripon - Melrose Abbey (William Haggas's runner), 3.50 Newbury – Tiggy Wiggy.
