KEIGHLEY Angling Club continues to host weekly matches at the River Aire in Kildwick, where the standard of fishing is excellent due to large numbers of fish patrolling its waters.

Nicky McKenna won the third leg with a 3lb 14oz bag of barbel, chub and brown trout. Darren Watson was also among the chub and trout, adding grayling to his list of catches. Although he was unable to overtake McKenna, his 3lb 6oz haul comfortably took second place.

While many competitors reported losing good-sized fish, the evening's unluckiest angler was Robin Pickles, who was left to rue the eight that got away. They included several chub, each large enough to have seen him among the prizes. However Pickles' broken line cost him dearly as well as a place on the leaderboard.

Thursday evening competitions will continue. Please contact match secretary Darren on 07795-243332 for details.

Leisure anglers continue to report good catches on the river and canal. Local stretches are in prime condition for fishing with plenty of roach, chub, trout and bream being caught on a variety of baits including bread and mixed maggot.
