UNIVERSITY Academy Keighley's under-13s team have become Bradford Schools cricket champions.

The boys, who are in Year Eight, faced Bradford South League winners Kings Academy in the Bradford Schools final at Beckfoot School.

Kings Academy scored 115 runs from their 16 overs. In reply ,UAK scored 137 from their allocation, clinching the title by 22 runs.

Outstanding bowling performances came from Ayman Asif, Junaid Basharat and Zeeshan Amjad, with batting contributions from Junayd Imran (17), Zeeshan Amjad (17) and Adnan Jamshed (18). However, it was a destructive batting performance from captain Zaine Nasser that sealed the win with a massive 39 runs from his 12 deliveries, which included five huge sixes and one four.

The team, who were formed just over a year ago, have been practicing hard both in and out of school.

They saw off seven other teams to win the North Bradford League in May to qualify for the grand final.
