AFTER losing their last four finals, Oakworth have finally come good in the Wynn Cup.

And the did it in convincing fashion last Sunday, defeating Thornton by eight wickets at Oakworth to repeat their 2006 victory – the last time they won the Craven League's blue-riband event.

Following a slightly delayed start due to weather, the pitch was in cracking condition thanks to the covers and, on winning the toss, Oakworth asked Thornton to bat.

In last week’s preview, it was suggested that Kevin Pollard was the man the Booth Bridge Laners wanted to build their innings around.

He and two others had read the script, despite the West Craveners being demolished for 111.

Pollard carried his bat for a 98-ball 37 not out and figured in a 37-run third-wicket partnership with Chris Bowker (28) and a 40-run ninth-wicket stand with James Greenwood (28).

The other eight batsmen could only muster 12 between them, with five scoring ducks. The opening attack of Matt House (5-27) and Steve Filkin (5-33) did all the damage with the ball.

The reply got off to a sound start with Jack Hainsworth and Robert Hopkinson (26) putting on 53 for the first wicket.

Hainsworth (29) was next to go with the score on 71, run out by Shane Taylforth, but Brannon Lawn (20no) was joined by Gareth Marshall, the pair proceeding to their target in the 27th over, with the latter hitting six fours and a six in his 21-ball 31 not out.

At the presentations, Oakworth were thanked for their superb work on the ground, while the refreshment ladies and bar staff were complimented for their hard work. Dacre Son & Hartley were thanked for their continued sponsorship of the final.

The trophies were presented to the teams by league secretary Ann Coe.

The Craven Football League man of the match trophy, as awarded by umpires Ken Moore and Bert Lambert, went to Filkin, who also won the trophy last year!
