KEIGHLEY Cricket Club stalwarts Lesley and Keith Robinson are looking forward to merely watching some play next season instead of being at the hub of most things at Lawkholme Lane.

The former Yorkshire Cricket Board volunteers of the year winners have decided that now is the time to move away from being behind the tea-room counter.

Keith, who has also been membership secretary and has organised raffles and summer draws which have helped the club keep going, said: "I will be 80 next year and at that age I just want to be watching some cricket.

"In the summer, I am there virtually every day of the week, while in the winter you need to be on hand once or twice a week to open up the club for meetings or if there are any workmen that need letting in, for example."

Lesley, 71, added: "I used to score, and I loved doing that, but the volunteers that were supposed to be working in the tea-room would ring up on a Friday night to say that they couldn't make it the following day – and there was too much for Keith to do on his own, so I used to help him.

"I am also stepping down as cricket secretary. There shouldn't be too much to do up until Christmas but we thought it was better to go now than leave it until the annual meeting in March. It gives them more time to find replacements."
