WHILE Hope Factory Racing rider Rob Jebb, formerly of Bingley, was winning the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross race for the 11th time, there was plenty of drama happening behind him.

And most of it centred on Keighley's Joe Moses (Wheelbase Altura MGD), who overcame a large handicap to finish third, and be the leading under-23, in 3:07.29.

He was coming down Pen-y-Ghent Lane when his steerer tube snapped.

Moses, who is also attached to Paul Milnes Cycles-Bradford Olympic RC, kept his bike under control and, happy to avoid a major injury, came to a halt by a dry-stone wall before changing his bike and continuing to finish on the podium.

Glusburn-based Jedi Cycle Sport won the team event, thanks to Cononley's Ian Taylor (fifth), Haworth's Andy Peace (11th) and Settle's John Murfin (25th), and, as all three were also over-40s, they won the men's veterans' team prize as well, while Bradley's Ed McParland (Torq Performance) was 32nd and second men's under-23 in 3:26.33.

Simon Lloyd was the first Keighley & Craven entrant to finish in 364th in 4:34.47, followed in 365th by Ed's dad Ian (Bronte Wheelers) in 4:35.28.

"It's nice to get another win, but it doesn't get any easier", said Jebb, who is 40 early next year. "I'm busy with kids and family life, and I'm not getting any younger.

"I've been keeping up with my fell running, and went to the World Mountain Running Championships recently, representing Great Britain, so I'm in good shape."
