INJURY forced a Wilsden motorcycle racer to pull out of running for charity in the Berlin Marathon.
But Andrew Lund, who was going to take part for the air ambulance organisation that saved a colleague's life, hopes instead to tackle the event next year.
His former fellow racer, Nick Matthews, who almost died in a 120mph crash last summer, did take part.
Together they had set a fundraising target of £10,000.
"I was devastated to have to withdraw," said Mr Lund.
"Unfortunately the training caused further damage to a previous injury and after running a half-marathon I couldn't walk for over a week.
"I am now awaiting major surgery on my right foot.
"Nick completed the event in just over four-and-a-half hours with another friend.
"The main reason I was running the marathon was to support Nick, but if the foot is up to the task I do plan on trying again next year."
