While the river Aire around Keighley continues to yield large quantities of fish, the highest numbers this week were found along key stretches of the canal between Keighley and Skipton.
Keighley match secretary Darren Watson reported dace and chub showing strongly on the river at Utley. Varying stick and quiver tactics with maggot and worm on a 20 hook, he netted several prime fish during a three-hour spell including 17 brown trout which were all returned to the water.
Meanwhile on the canal near Riddlesden, two anglers combined pole with white maggot to share a haul of 44 fish including perch and some sizeable skimmer bream.
Although the trout season closed at the end of September, Keighley Angling Club has received a number of enquiries from coarse and fly anglers keen to seek out shoals of grayling in known swims along the river. Non members can contact secretary Dennis Freeman to obtain a permit to fish.
