Steeton 5 Bingley Town 0

Steeton continued their improved run of form to progress to the second round of the Keighley Cup.

Josh Brooksbank returned in goal, while Joe Park and Graham Holmes came in for Danny Driver and Damien Whiteoak.

It soon became clear that Steeton were stronger, with Arley Barnes forcing the first of many good saves by the visiting keeper.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute when a cross from the left by Arley Barnes evaded everyone and went into the top corner.

Michael Rhodes, back at right back after filling in at centre back the previous week, played a number of excellent passes out from the back. After one such pass, Lee Reilly was the victim of a cynical push in the box but Reilly missed the penalty.

He made amends soon after when he picked up a through ball from Tim Hird and calmly lobbed the keeper.

Steeton claimed their third after 40 minutes when Holmes wriggled free of his marker and rifled a shot hard and low to the keeper’s right.

They made it four in the 52nd minute when Danny McNulty's cross-shot from 30 yards sailed over the keeper's outstretched hands.

At the other end, Josh Brooksbank was forced into a good save and he had to be alert to thwart a one-on-one situation.

Sub Josh Metcalfe and Sam Rooke came close to adding to Steeton's tally before sub Ben Sutcliffe set up their final goal within minutes of coming on. His good cross was headed home by Reilly, who finally claimed his second.

Joe Park almost added a sixth when his shot from distance hit the woodwork.

Boss Roy Mason said: "It was nice to keep a clean sheet and gives us more to build on. Credit to Bingley Town for never throwing in the towel. It was great to give the younger players a good run and all did well when they came on, especially Ben Sutcliffe."

Steeton travel to Littletown on Saturday.

Steeton: Brooksbank, Rhodes, Park, McNulty, Rooke, Barnes (Driver), Holden, Hird (Metcalfe), Reilly, Holmes, McGee (Sutcliffe).
