Alliance Division One

Leeds City Reserves 2 Oxenhope Rec Reserves 1

Top of the table Oxenhope travelled to Leeds City Reserves, a ground where they have never found success in the past – and it still remained that way after a disappointing, lacklustre performance.

The home side hold the best home record in the division and proved this point when they took a two-goal lead in the first half.

Sloppy defending gifted Leeds their first goal when their wide player breezed past the Oxenhope defence and smashed the ball in at the near post.

Oxenhope responded with a strike from Joel Gallagher that was tipped onto the upright by the Leeds keeper before the home side burst down field and doubled their advantage.

Rec did produce a more spirited performance after the break and Gallagher reduced the arrears with a deflected strike. The leaders chased the equaliser but to no avail and suffered only their first defeat since the opening day of the season.

This Saturday they have a tough second round County Trophy tie at Robin Hood Reserves (1.30pm).
