Cowling Harlequins 56, Clayton A 0

HARLEQUINS bounced back from two poor games to blitz bottom club Clayton A at Burgess Fields.

The game started with numerous knock-ons and silly errors by both teams before great work from Scott Cunningham got the ball to full back Liam Kelly and he coasted in for the first of his double, with Kelly also adding five conversions from six attempts.

Cowling were now finding their confidence, with Chris Spencer working hard, and it was not long until Danny Whittaker powered over.

Craig Nicholson missed the goal attempt but made up for this with two quickfire tries, Cunningham converting both.

From the restart, Chris Ashworth and Brain Vincent made great yards up the field for captain Jay Bingham to hit an angle and go under the sticks, leaving Cowling in full control.

To Clayton's credit they never gave up but they reached the interval trailing 24-0.

The second half started really well for Harlequins, with Bingham going in for his second try.

Ever-present winger Matt Salisbury then sprinted in for his first-ever Cowling try, a feat soon matched by Mark Uschakow.

Chris Spencer also went over, Ash Wood kicking the extra two points, with skipper Bingham just edging the man of the match vote from Spencer.

Next up for Harlequins is a trip to play Wyke A on Saturday.
