Keighley Albion u-13s 28 Guiseley Rangers u-13s 18

ALBION sealed their division title last weekend with a final-game victory over Guiseley Rangers.

Coming down the hill against their visitors, they rattled up three quick scores. James Whitcombe powered his way over and added the conversion before good play between Harry Normington, Bobby Darbyshire and Ethan Lawrie saw the ball worked to the right-hand centre for Oliver Hope to race in.

With Harry Driver running strongly and making the hard yards look easy, he set the platform for Max Hutchinson to break the Guiseley line to go through and score. From the kick-off Driver’s big hit dislodged the ball from a Guiseley player and Hutchinson was on hand to pick up and race away to touch down.

Guiseley added a try of their own before half-time to cut the deficit but Albion looked well on top at 22-6 in front.

However, Albion’s nerves must have started jangling at the prospect of landing their first honours as a number of errors gifted Guiseley easy field position after the break.

As good as the Albion defence was, Guiseley’s big runners found a couple of gaps to cut the lead to ten points.

Joel Waddington steadied the ship as he took the ball at an Albion scrum on their own ten-metre line and went the length of the field in a foot race to touch down under the posts. With the goal added, the pressure should have been off Albion and it looked like Joe Dearnley had forced his way over to seal the win but the try was disallowed for a knock on.

Albion mistakes cost them possession which Guiseley took advantage of to cross for the final score. But Keighley had done enough as the celebrations started for Albion to bring the curtain down on an excellent season.
