A BACK injury has ruled Denholme's Rebekah Tiler out of this week's World Weightlifting Championships in Kazakhstan.

"It is the same injury that Rebekah suffered at the Commonwealth Games," said her mum Emma, "but it flared up again at a training camp a couple of weeks ago at Loughborough University.

"She has been receiving physio but we decided that it would be best for her to rest up for next year, when she will be competing in the European Senior Championships and the World Youth Championships."

Rebekah, who is not 16 until January, has been keeping her hand in by refereeing at the Northern Schools' Championships earlier this month at the Oasis Youth Centre, Ellesmere Port, alongside her mum and Mytholmroyd club coach Eddie Halstead.

Competing were Rebekah's sisters Lisa and Sophie, who won their respective categories.

Sophie, in the Year Seven section, had a personal-best snatch of 34kg and a clean and jerk of 44kg in a 175kg total, only failing at 41kg in the clean and jerk, while Lisa, who was in the Year Five category, had personal bests of 27kg and 34kg on the way to six successful lifts out of six and a 167kg total for another first place.
