Steeton 9 FC Sporting Keighley 2

FORMER Steeton player Joynal Ali brought his Sporting Keighley side to Summerhill Lane but saw his players score only two of the 11 goals in a one-sided affair.

The Chevrons took the lead after less than a quarter of an hour when a drive across the face of goal by Mark McGee was touched in by Lee Reilly.

The lead was almost doubled just minutes later when Andy Holden tried his luck from distance but his fierce left-footed grass-cutter was well blocked by Harry Hussein.

The second came after 23 minutes when Steeton were awarded a penalty and Reilly slotted home.

Attempts to increase the lead by McGee, Graham Holmes and Andy Holden brought out the best in Sporting's goalkeeper Abid Zaman. Nevertheless, ten minutes before the interval Reilly completed a first-half hat-trick when Holden's superb pass was flicked by the striker over the head of Hussein and smashed home past Zaman.

The second half was only five minutes old when McGee found the bottom corner with an unerring drive after dribbling the ball along the edge of the area and waiting for an opening to appear. Holmes' pinpoint pass saw Joe Park ram home number five before Arley Barnes' left-foot drive from 20 yards was spectacularly pushed around the post by Zaman. Sporting came into the game, Aaron Abbas being unlucky to see a spectacular drive from just outside the area hit the post.

On 68 minutes they got their reward when an attempted clearance by Ryan Cox resulted in him fouling Abbas and he dispatched the spot-kick. The same player made the score 5-2 just seven minutes later after a mazy run saw him beat two defenders before slotting in.

With around ten minutes remaining, substitute Ben Sutcliffe scored the goal of the afternoon from out wide with a curving, dipping 20-yarder which gave the keeper no chance.

Steeton manager Roy Mason came on and showed his experience with some deft touches. A slick passing movement which he initiated led to McGee making it 7-2 and Reilly made it eight after capitalising on a bouncing ball.

The icing was put on the cake when a fine cross by Sutcliffe saw Mason head against a post, only for Reilly to tuck in the rebound for his fifth goal.

Boss Roy Mason said: "Credit to AFC Sporting, who tried to pass the ball at every opportunity and never gave up. I was pleased with the tempo of the game and we created plenty of chances throughout."
