COUGARS are hoping the date for their proposed extraordinary general meeting will be within the next three weeks.

They are currently awaiting for one club to agree a slight rewording of the resolution they have put forward to the RFL as they seek to make their case over the dual-registration player ineligibility saga, which saw Batley claim back docked points that resulted in Cougars' relegation.

Chairman Gary Fawcett said: “Hopefully this will be done this week and we can get a firm date for the EGM from the RFL.

“The most sensible date for this would be immediately after or before the AGM which is to be held on December 11.

“Hopefully the RFL will cooperate with this as this issue needs to be put to bed for the good of our sport.”

Fawcett has also responded to questions from fans relating to funds which were donated towards the club's legal fight against the RFL.

He said the amount received was less than £1,000 whereas costs had reached almost five times that figure.

Fawcett said: “I thank all the people who chose to donate to help the club. The total legal costs to date for us is almost £5,000.

“I will continue to press forward this matter (and the right to arbitration) through the administrative hurdles.”
