Worth Village 46 Wyke A 1

Village overcame a strong Wyke side bolstered by their first team not having a game.

They soon opened their account with Ben Ross going in under the posts. Good work from Gary Nelson and Jonny Crowther gave the impressive man of the match Joe Buckley the time to put Ross in and Joe Copperwaite scored the first of seven conversions.

Back came Wyke but good defence from Sean Knapper, Sean Cole, Rob Spencer and Daz McNulty kept them out.

Just before half-time, Buckley was again involved to set up Jack Copperwaite to score under the posts for a 12-0 half-time lead.

Worth took control in the second half, with Daz and Rocky McNulty to the fore as James Gow crossed out wide.

Then Joe Copperwaite scored after good work from Dean Farrell and Joe Hall in a length-of-the-field move. Captain Sean Knapper showed his strength to touch down and, with Chris Parker and Sean Snowdon showing up well, Village scored again as Joe Copperwaite put brother Jack in under the posts to make it 34-0.

Wyke replied with a drop goal for their solitary point but there was no let-up from the hosts as Crowther and Rocky McNulty did the hard work for Ross to crash over.

Village finished off with Kris Gott running 90 yards to beat the defence for a well-deserved try.

They are at home to Boothtown on Saturday (2pm) while Cowling Harlequins, who had a 30-0 walkover at King Cross Park A, visit Illingworth A. Keighley Albion host Slaithwaite Saracens in Division Five.
