Broomhill 4 FC Polonia 2

In the only game to beat the weather in the Keighley area, Broomhill eased their way to a comfortable victory against Marley rivals FC Polonia with man of the match Andy Tanner scoring a brace.

This was an entertaining game between two teams with an outside chance of promotion from Division Two.

All other games at Marley were postponed yet, after an inspection, the pitch was surprisingly firm and only the heavy wind a concern.

Following the previous week's shock cup defeat, Broomhill made a number of changes, with two debutants making the starting line-up. After 15 minutes of controlling possession, these switches seemed to have rejuvenated the Badgers.

Playing against gale-force winds in the first half, Broomhill still created the better chances, with Tanner and winger Joe Slater linking up well on numerous occasions.

Only a great save on to the bar from the Polonia keeper denied Tanner the opening goal.

Instead, it was Polonia who scored with their first attempt on goal after 25 minutes. A free-kick on the edge of the box was expertly driven into keeper Jake Yaxley's goal by Sebastian Miler with a little help from the wind.

Were it not for a perfect block from debutant left back Jon Smith six yards from goal, it could have been 2-0 from the restart.

Within two minutes though, the Badgers were level via an own goal. A free-kick was floated into the box by right back Aaron Whitaker and, with no one challenging the Polonia defender, he misjudged the flight of the ball and headed into his own goal.

Ten minutes later, the Polonia keeper was substituted due to an apparent ankle injury and this change was vital in Broomhill taking the lead. The new keeper fumbled a through ball and top scorer Tanner pounced to tap round the helpless keeper and pass into an empty goal.

After half-time, Broomhill kept the same attacking mentality with the wind in their favour.

New signing Mark Hardman was continually breaking up play in the middle of the park and creating chances along with returning captain Patrick King, who was utilising the width provided by Tom Hill.

It was a through-ball from central midfield which led to the third goal. Tanner chased the ball while it was rolling to the far right corner and, after beating two men, made it to the six-yard box and drilled home into the far corner with the outside of his foot.

On the hour mark, a corner was cleared to Whitaker, who hit an unstoppable first-time shot from 25 yards into the top left-hand corner of the net, clipping the underside of the bar on the way in.

Playing together for the first time all season, centre backs Chris Holroyd and David Rhodes were untroubled throughout.

Polonia's Pizemyslaw Witch reduced the deficit from the spot after Rhodes was judged to have handled in the box but Broomhill held on to move further up the table.

Damian Swies was Polonia's man of the match.
