Consistent Keighley & Craven Athletics Club member Katie Atkinson retained her under-14 girls title in the North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships at sunny Whitby on Saturday.
Atkinson, runner-up in the previous week’s full County Championships for clubs, led the Harrogate & Craven under-14s to a comfortable victory in the team competition.
But clubmate fellow Skipton Girls High School pupil Lucy Fryers, who has also been in fine form this season, was missing from the under-12s race due to picking up a stress fracture.
Bingley Harriers' Ruby Firth produced an impressive performance to win the contest in her absence.
Keighley & Craven's Jimmy Lund came 15th in the under-16s representing Ermysted’s to make the North Yorkshire team for the Inter-Counties meeting at South Shields on February 7.
Meanwhile, ten athletes from Keighley schools have been selected to represent the City of Bradford in the West Yorkshire Schools' Cross-Country Championships at Silcoates School, Wakefield on Saturday, February 7.
Half of them are from Parkside – Eliza Findlay and Sophie Mouldon (junior girls), Jake Dowden (junior boys) and Aaron Greenwood and Mason Mirzalli (intermediate boys) – and there are four from Oakbank (intermediate girls Eleanor Robinson and Tegan Knappy and junior boys Kieron Hall and Jack Walton), plus Holy Family's Charlie Spencer (junior boy).
