Tingley Athletic 2 Silsden Ladies 2

SILSDEN came within ten minutes of causing an upset against a Tingley side who had won seven out of eight league games.

Despite the formbook, the visitors took the lead midway through the first half. Sarah Betterton found Laura Ackroyd in the Tingley area and she turned her marker before slotting into the bottom corner.

Silsden were in the ascendency, with Christina Aston and captain Victoria Ellis, on the left, and Hutchinson and Brewer, on the right, creating problems for the home defence.

From a break down right, Brewer drew a free-kick. It was cleared as far as Hutchinson, who put the ball straight back into Ackroyd and she again found the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

It was not until the second half that Silsden keeper Megan Fawell was tested with a couple of routine shots.

Silsden however, continued creating chances, stemming from the tireless midfield trio of Betterton, Kate Perfect and Wood. Ellis was millimetres from decent contact on a cross from the right.

Tingley applied more pressure but the centre-half duo of Rebecca Brown and Katie Fawcett stood up well. With15 minutes left, Dee Rutherford, Vicky Williamson and Clare Anderson were brought on to give some fresh legs but they couldn’t prevent a cross being converted from just inside the box by a Tingley striker.

With little over five minutes left, Silsden's hearts were broken when a loose ball was controlled and finished to make it 2-2.

The visitors still had chances to win it, Wood narrowly firing over, and, with seconds remaining, Brown was inches from connecting with a Brewer corner.

This was another fantastic performance, which Silsden will hope to take into their next game on February 8 at home to Hebden Royd.
