ALFIE Moses' cyclo-cross season rather tailed off as he finished 58th in the sixth round of the UCI World Cup at Hoogerheide in the Netherlands and 35th at the World Championships in Tabor in the Czech Republic.

The Keighley teenager admitted: "It is disappointing. I just didn't have enough energy in my legs."

However, Moses can look back on his first campaign at junior men's level with plenty of pride as he won the opening three rounds of the National Trophy – at Shrewsbury, Southampton and Durham – on the way to overall success and was second in the National Championships in Abergavenny.

The Dutch venue of Hoogerheide was a more technical course than Tabor but both had similar problems to overcome – frozen ground that became rutted due to riders testing themselves out on the course in the mornings.

Paul Milnes Cycles-Bradford RC rider Moses said: "My tyre pressure was okay but I also crashed at Hoogerheide when I couldn't unclip my left shoe."

He will now take a well-deserved break before turning his attention to a mixture of summer cross and road racing but does not yet know his exact schedule.

While Moses has been enduring temperatures of minus six in mainland Europe, his elder brothers Tom and Joe have had to cope with the other extreme of 38 degrees while training and racing in Australia – and both have enjoyed success in Victoria.

Tom, 22, was 17th in an uphill finish in the Jayco Sun Tour, while 20-year-old Joe was third in the support race on day three of the Mitchelton Bay Classic.

Team manager John Herety said: "Joe raced with his head and legs and I'm glad to see he was rewarded with a trip to the podium."

He was also fourth on stage two and ninth on stage four.
