Brighouse Athletic 4

Keighley Oaks 3

WE was robbed!

After conceding two goals that they are adamant were offside and having another disallowed that looked a foot over the line, Keighley Oaks reckon the least they deserved from this derby at Hipperholme & Lightcliffe School was a draw.

Athletic named a strong side while Oaks had a decent side out, although slightly depleted.

The opening 20 minutes was nip and tuck before hardworking midfielder Rebecca Granger hit a magnificent shot from 40 yards that sailed in over the Brighouse keeper.

Slack defending on the halfway line allowed the home side to equalise and they soon led 3-1, although the second goal looked a yard offside.

Wingers Laura Adams and Kylie Armstrong came on for the injured Jodie Elliott (knee) and Leah Gilmore and were quickly into their stride but Brighouse then added a fourth goal, Oaks feeling that the attacker was two yards offside.

Granger was at the heart of some half-chances for the visitors, and eventually turned and shot to make it 4-2, and Adams was again the provider as Kirsty Delaney capitalised on a one-in-one to make it 4-3 with 20 minutes left.

Rachel Holdsworth then gave a penalty away, despite never touching the Brighouse attacker.

The spot-kick was missed, however, before Melissa Houldsworth was convinced she had equalised with a shot that was a foot over the line, only for the referee to rule that the shot had been saved.

Bethany Gaines worked hard in defence but Holdsworth and Granger shared the match point.

On Sunday, bottom-of-the-table Keighley Oaks are at third-from-bottom Ossett Town in the league, while Oaks' League Cup quarter-final derby at Silsden has been arranged for Sunday, March 1 at the Angel Telecom Stadium.
