Cullingworth Youth 4 Horsforth St Margarets 3

Youth withstood a second-half comeback from Horsforth St Margarets in a thrilling match to claim all three points.

In spite of near gale-force winds, both teams played some good football. Shooting down hill in the first half with the wind at their backs, Cullingworth dominated and opened the scoring in the tenth minute through Joshua Town.

Ten minutes later Town scored again and Jack Waper added to the tally to give the hosts a three-goal advantage at the break.

Despite their healthy lead, Youth’s manager was concerned it was not enough in view of the conditions which favoured the visitors in the second half.

With the wind at their backs, Horsforth controlled play but leading scorer Waper added his second goal to put Cullingworth 4-0 up.

However, Horsforth fought back, scoring twice from corners and making it 4-3 with five minutes left.

Youth held on thanks to a super defensive display in the second half. They also had chances to add to their tally but missed a couple of sitters.

Andy Waper was Cullingworth's man of the match.

On Sunday they are at home to Keighley Town, who drew 2-2 in a great game at leaders Yeadon Vets last week, with Craig Morris and Leroy Hickman on target.

It was the first time in nine league fixtures that Yeadon had dropped a point.
