Alliance Division One: Oxenhope Reserves 7 Aberford Reserves 1
Oxenhope’s second string bounced back from the previous week’s disappointment of going out of the League Cup to Beeston Reserves with an uplifting victory over relegation-threatened Aberford Reserves.
In their first attack, James Bailey found Leroy Hickman, who completed a cheeky step over and side flick to open the scoring. Minutes later Bailey delivered a cross that was cleared to the edge of the box and Jonathan Clewes smashed home his volley.
Aberford were shell-shocked and found it difficult to get out of their own half as Oxenhope created numerous chances. Joe Brady out-muscled his marker to score the third before Clewes seized a loose ball in the box to grab his second and skipper Will Lee rounded the keeper for number five.
The second period continued in the same vein, Brady quickly adding his second from a threaded through pass by Bailey. Aberford never gave up and scored a consolation goal on a swift counter-attack.
Graham Robinson completed the rout when he won the ball in midfield and evaded several challenges before slotting home.
This Saturday the reserves continue their push for the title when they entertain Headingley Reserves (2.30pm).
